Youth volunteers encouraged to apply for United Way scholarship

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — High school juniors and seniors in southcentral Kansas who actively volunteer in the community can apply for a scholarship for up to $25,000 for college.

The United Way of the Plains Aaron Joel Smith Youth Volunteer Memorial Scholarship provides three high school students with scholarships for $10,000, $15,000, or $25,000. The scholarship is open for high school juniors and seniors in Sedgwick, Butler, Barber, Cowley, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Pratt, Sumner, and Reno counties.

The teens must have volunteered at least 200 hours outside of school and volunteerism that is not connected to organizations or societies that require volunteerism as part of their membership. The volunteer time frame should correspond with their time in high school between their freshman and senior years.

The application deadline is March 1. Winners will be notified in Spring.
