Young Topekans awarded for positive work in community

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Some local youth-led projects are getting support from the community to empower youth in the capital city.

The Topeka Youth Commission (TYC), and the Topeka Community Foundation (TCF) partner up each year to present checks supporting these projects. The Stay-785 program is an effort to encourage young people to make a difference in the community and help bring their project visions to life.

“We really want to be able to continue this project into the future and continue to have a yearly math competition at Silver Lake,” grant recipient Allie Sexton said. “So, this funding really helped us to sort of get that off the ground, and it really helped make the day possible.”

Each recipient was awarded a portion of the $10 thousand grant for their project.

“Being able to give them this money and help them out is really meaningful to us and to them because Topeka is only going to get better from there because of the youth,” Jaden Patterson with TYC said. “The youth is the future really.”

Each year, both organizations select new recipients to receive these grants. You can learn more about these grants by clicking here.
