WSU’s Corbin Education Center closed until at least September due to flooding

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A historic building on Wichita State University’s campus is closed until at least September due to flooding, the school said Tuesday.

The Corbin Education Center’s basement flooded on Friday, March 22. The flood damaged equipment and prevented the running of power, HVAC, and IT services throughout the building.

The school said the damage will cause the building to be closed for “a considerable period of time” and said early estimates are the building will not reopen until at least September.

Students who have classes in Corbin should check Blackboard for updates about classes, as instructors will communicate how they will proceed for the remainder of the spring semester.

The school said the structural integrity of the building, designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, has not been compromised. Replacing the equipment, however, will take “many” months.

Events planned for the Corbin Education Center, including the 60th anniversary celebration, will be postponed until Fall 2024.

For more information, the school has set up a new web page for updates and frequently asked questions. You can visit that website by clicking here.
