WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita State students got a chance to learn about jobs in the sports industry Thursday at the Rhatigan Student Center.

Thursday was the first time that WSU held the event. Employees who work with the Wichita Thunder, Sporting Kansas City, and the Wind Surge among many other professional sports teams and organizations all came out to share their knowledge with the next generation.

There were breakouts with Q&A sessions where students got learn about the in’s and out’s of sports marketing and advertisement.

“Internally you’re like ‘wow, I’m actually talking to people who are working in the levels that I want to be like, this is what I aspired to do.’ So it’s just really cool to be able to like you know rub elbows with them, be able to talk with them, and introduce yourself and get your name out there as well.” student attendee Jonathan Hodges said.

Students also learned about jobs, internships and part-time opportunities that can give them a break into the industry once they graduate from school. The key note speaker for the summit was Wichita State Athletic Director Kevin Saal.

WSU plans on having this event again next year with hopes of having more professional teams and organization attend the event.
