World record hopeful runs through NE Kansas

OSAGE COUNTY (KSNT) – If you’re driving around Kansas, you might spot a man attempting to complete a 3,000-mile coast-to-coast run.

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office took to social media to let locals know about the arrival of Paul Johnson. He is in the middle of a transcontinental run from New York City to Los Angeles, a feat he hopes to complete in 40 days.

Johnson is a naval officer seeking to beat the current world record set by Pete Kostelnick in 2016. Kostelnick ran from NYC to San Francisco in just over 42 days, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Traveling from the starting point to the end destination by car would take more than 40 hours, according to Google Maps.

He’s also taking on this monumental effort to raise money for Team Red White and Blue (RWB) with a goal set for $1 million. RWB’s primary goal is to enrich the lives of U.S. military veterans. So far, Johnson has raised nearly $250,000.
