Wind spreads flames in Hays house fire; 3 pets die

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Hays Fire Department said the wind caused a fire to spread at a home in southeast Hays on Wednesday. The fire also claimed the lives of three pets.

It started just before 2 p.m. at a manufactured home at 1010 Reservation Road.

Hays fire crews arrived to find flames coming from the front and rear patio doors. The fire was brought under control, but crews stayed for several hours to ensure all hot spots were extinguished.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause is determined to be accidental.
