Wildfire danger high across southern Kansas

27 February 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The KSN Storm Track 3 Weather team says a fire weather warning has been issued for southern Kansas on Tuesday.

Humidity is forecast to be low, and temperatures will reach nearly 80 degrees. The National Weather Service says that any fires that happen will likely spread rapidly due to forecasted wind.

Tonight, a cold front will move into the area. The Kansas Forest Service says any active fires will experience a wind shift, creating a safety concern for those fighting any fire. The KFS says to check previous burns as any ember burning may reignite.

“Weather conditions today mirror weather Kansas has witnessed when historic fires have started.”
