Wild Side: Jabba the American toad visits from Great Plains Nature Center

12 March 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Victoria Burnett with the Great Plains Nature Center brought in Jabba, an American toad, to KSN’s Wild Side Tuesday afternoon.

Burnett says American toads can be found in the eastern third of Kansas.

“They’re a really cool critter that you’ll especially see during the springtime,” said Burnett.

She says toads have bumps on their skin, unlike frogs.

“Their skin doesn’t have to be as moist or wet as a frog, but a frog is gonna have that wet, smooth skin,” said Burnett.

Toads are also carnivores, something the Great Plains Nature Center will be covering during one of its free spring break programs. Read “Great Plains Nature Center hosting free spring break programs” for more details.
