Wichita woman gets probation in shooting death of teen

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita woman was sentenced to probation in connection to the shooting death of Erik Stokes, 17.

Breckyn Elliott was charged in May 2021 with first-degree murder. On Feb. 2, she pleaded guilty to attempted to obstruct apprehension of prosecution, committed or charged with a felony, and on the count of possession of marijuana.

A Sedgwick County judge sentenced Elliott to six months of probation.

Elliott was one of three suspects charged with Stokes’ death. The other defendant, Jaron Palmer, was found guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, reckless aggravated battery, attempt to commit aggravated robbery, and battery on Jan. 29.

The other suspect, Easton Palmer, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and attempted aggravated robbery on Aug. 18, 2022. He was sentenced on Sept. 28, 2022, to five years and five months in prison.

Jaron is scheduled for sentencing on March 8.

According to the Wichita Police Department, they received a call at 6:50 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2021, for the report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 3800 block of W. 13th St. N.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Stokes, who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another boy was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
