Wichita State cruises to blowout win over Tulsa

22 February 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita State University Shockers men took an early lead and cruised to victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Wednesday.

Colby Rogers, Kenny Pohto, and Bijan Cortes were the main focus of the Shockers offense as they scored 19, 16, and 11, respectively. As a team, the Shockers shot 48.3% from the field and 23.1% from three but also made the most of their chances at the free-throw line, going 18-of-20.

While the three-point percentage doesn’t look fantastic, the Shockers’ defense made things even tougher for the Golden Hurricane, as Tulsa shot just 10.5% from three.

Improvements coming to short-line rail in Kansas

It was a sloppy game from both teams, with the Shockers committing 16 turnovers, but they forced 21 on Tulsa, 15 of those coming off steals.

The win moves Wichita State to 11-16 overall and 3-11 in AAC play. Up next, the Shockers will stay home and host Temple. That game will tip off at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.
