Wichita man sentenced for stealing car with children inside

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A 32-year-old Wichita man was sentenced for his role in stealing a car with two children inside. It happened back in November 2022 at 31st Street South and Seneca.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office says 32-year-old Tyler Kirkhart was sentenced to 83 months in prison on Monday. In June 2023, he pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated endangering of a child and one count of theft. The DA says he received 22 months for the counts of aggravated endangering a child and seven months for felony theft. Previous parole violations were added to the total.

At the time of the theft, a woman was filling a tire with air when Kirkhart jumped in and took off. The children were found in the car in the 3500 block of S. St. Francis, and they were not hurt.
