WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita man was sentenced to life plus 16 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of Christian Gonzalez in 2019.
Efrain Arroyo II, 34, was found guilty by a jury in Nov. 2023 of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and criminal use of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office said Arroyo was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 25 years for the first degree murder charge.
He was sentenced to 186 months for the aggravated kidnapping charge and nine months for the criminal use of a firearm by a convicted felon charge. That equals out to 16 years and three months.
The DA’s office tells KSN Arroyo will have to serve at least 25 years before he is eligible for parole. If he is granted parole, the 16-year, three month sentence would then begin.
Arroyo was also fined $500 for driving without a license plate.
Arroyo was arrested in Dec. 2019 after Hernandez’s body was found in a ditch near 45th Street North and Greenwich Road on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019 around 7:30 a.m.
Police at the time said Hernandez died from a gunshot.
