TOPEKA (KSNT) – As temperatures warm in late February, some experts say it’s a golden opportunity to test your air conditioning (AC) units before the first heat wave.
Blue Dot in Topeka specializes in HVAC services. They are most often needed on the first hot week of the year when everyone is turning on their AC for the first time. That’s why they recommend testing it while we have this unusually warm weather.
A Blue Dot spokesman says many people put off checking their AC until the summer heat strikes. However, that can be too late if lots of other people are simultaneously having issues, which Blue Dot says happens more often than you’d think.
“Turn that air conditioner on for 10 minutes just to see how it performs,” Blue Dot sales manager Brandon Barnette said. “Historically, every year we see people turn their air conditioners on that first week that it hits 90, and every heating and air company in the entire country is backed up with service calls. I would recommend getting ahead of it, test that air conditioner now.”
These warm temperatures won’t stick around forever. Barnette says your AC won’t work properly if it’s below 65 degrees, so afternoons this weekend is the perfect time to check it.
