Where the high-demand, high-wage jobs are in Kansas and no bachelor’s degree needed

26 January 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Almost everyone wants a job that brings in a lot of money and one where they have job security. If you thought that was only possible with a bachelor’s degree, the Kansas Department of Labor wants to change your mind.

The KDOL compiled a list of 56 occupations considered high demand and high wage. Only 16 of them require more than a high school diploma. Eight typically require an associate degree. Seven usually require a postsecondary non-degree award. And one typically requires some college but no degree.

The KDOL list of jobs starts with workers who do not have a high school diploma and goes up to people with an associate degree.

Thirty of the 56 occupations have an estimated entry-level hourly wage of at least $18. The five with the highest estimated entry-level hourly wages are:

Transportation, storage and distribution managers – $35.48

Dental hygienists – $32.41

Diagnostic medical sonographers – $32.38

Farmers, ranchers and other agricultural managers – $27.13

Respiratory therapists – $25.84

“In a rapidly changing job landscape, embracing diverse educational and career pathways becomes increasingly essential,” the KDOL said in a news release. “This collection serves as a reminder that success can be achieved through various means, and opportunities are abundant for those willing to explore other routes.”
