TOPEKA (KSNT) – After Medicaid Expansion hit a major setback at the Kansas Statehouse last week, all eyes are on what steps lawmakers will take next. This comes as the deadline to consider bills is fast approaching.

Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins, Executive Director of Alliance for a Healthy Kansas April Holman, and Political Analyst Bob Beatty joined Inside Kansas Politics on Sunday to discuss Medicaid Expansion and other options on the table for lawmakers.

The panel spoke with Nexstar’s Kansas Capitol Bureau Chief Rebekah Chung, as they debated issues like the cost of Medicaid Expansion and whether a bill would make it to the Governor’s desk. Speaker Hawkins argued that he doesn’t have the votes to pass a bill in his chamber.

“What I can tell you… there are not 63 votes there… there are not even 55 votes there,” Hawkins said.

Hawkins said he’s focused on raising medical reimbursement rates and working on tax relief plans.
