What is the new anti-Trump, anti-Biden political party in Kansas?

18 January 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas voters will need to keep their eyes and ears open for a new political party that is now being officially recognized in the Sunflower State.

The Kansas Secretary of State (SOS) Scott Schwab said in a press release on Jan. 18 that the political party ‘No Labels’ has met statutory requirements to be recognized as the state’s newest political party. No Labels Kansas sent in a petition with the signatures of 2% of the total votes case in the 2022 statewide gubernatorial general election.

The previous political party to receive recognition in Kansas was Americans Elect in 2012 which later lost its recognition in 2013 when it failed to nominate any candidates in the 2012 elections, according to the SOS. No Labels is on par with the Libertarian Party in terms of size.

No Labels Kansas cannot participate in the August primary election later this year and must instead nominate candidates for the November general election through a convention or caucus. It can become a major political party and be entitled to nominate its general election candidates if its governor candidate gets more than 5% of the statewide vote.

Now that No Labels Kansas is officially recognized by the SOS, voters can register under its affiliation and nominate candidates for public office. Kansas voter registration forms have been modified to reflect No Labels Kansas as an option for voters to affiliate with.

What is No Labels?

No Labels describes itself as a political organization dedicated to offering people an independent unity ticket in 2024, according to its website. The group is set against extremism and anger in politics and focuses on a commonsense approach to solving the nation’s problems.

Why are there three suns over Kansas?

Worries have been expressed in the past that No Labels could take critical votes away from major presidential candidates in the general election, especially for President Joe Biden, in a 2023 article from The Hill. The general idea behind the organization is to offer voters who are fed up with Biden or former President Donald Trump a third choice.
