LAWRENCE (KSNT) – KU football coach Lance Leipold reaffirmed his commitment to Lawrence, Kansas on Wednesday.

KU Athletics announced a new contract agreement with the Jayhawk head coach, giving him a significant raise. Leipold and KU Athletics Director Travis Goff addressed the media Thursday following the announcement. KU’s coach joined K-Nation’s Caroline Soro in a one-on-one interview after the press conference.

When asked about the outside noise concerning Leipold’s status at KU amid other head coaching openings across the country, the head coach reiterated his attachment to Kansas.

“We’re extremely happy here in Lawrence,” Leipold said. “It’s always been that way. This is a great fit for our family, for many of our families, and we have unfinished business here.”

Leipold touched on everything from building confidence within the program to building confidence across the Lawrence community, even amid recent staffing changes.

“We lost some quality coaches, but again you can have addition through subtraction many different times,” Leipold said. ‘There’s new energies and there’s new commitment to making sure you stay fresh in your thoughts and your work ethic, and I think our three additions on the field besides some of the support staff members are going to be great additions and help us get to our goals.”

Over the offseason, KU has parted ways with former offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, defensive backs coach Jordan Peterson and offensive line coach Scott Fuchs.

However, the program has added multiple members to its staff. Jeff Grimes is the new offensive coordinator, NFL veteran D.K. McDonald is now the co-defensive coordinator and Leipold’s long-time friend Daryl Agpalsa is the new offensive line coach.
