MANHATTAN (KSNT) – K-State women’s basketball has solidified itself as a top five team in the country.
Coming in to the season, the Wildcats’ starting five was known to have a lot of potential. Off the bench, redshirt freshman Zyanna Walker has been a ball of energy, providing eight points per game and regularly drilling shots in big moments.
Walker sat down with K-Nation’s Landon Reinhardt to talk about her breakout campaign in Manhattan. A transfer from Louisville, Walker got her first big shot to prove herself by guarding Caitlin Clark against Iowa in K-State’s third game of the season.
“At Louisville, we played Iowa in the Elite 8, [Caitlin Clark] had a triple-double,” Walker said. “I learned a lot from the scout. We scouted her really hard…if she’s going left, she’s going to step back, if she goes right, she’s going all the way.”
Anytime Walker makes an important play, her go-to celebration is a “mean-mug,” opting for a from rather than a jumping up and down with a smile. She says that staying that way says a lot more to another team than trash-talk.
“A lot of it’s just the passion I have to play the game,” Walker said. “It’s a competitive sport. At the end of the day, it’s all love, but on the court, you got to think that nobody is better than yourself.”
Walker also discusses her willingness to hit big shots in key moments, playing alongside a deep roster and more.
