MANHATTAN (KSNT) – K-State men’s basketball has lost six of its last seven games, but the ‘Cats postseason hopes are still alive.
K-State radio network color commentator Stan Weber joined K-Nation to break down everything from K-State’s last-second loss to TCU to its postseason chances.
Weber says each game has its own story and against TCU, the Wildcats’ three-point shooting struggles got in the way. He believes its going to take a combination of things to right the K-State ship, including stealing a few upcoming road games.
“You need a little bit of everything, it’s not just 3-point shooting,” Weber said. “There are so many other factors and each game has its own story.”
It starts, Weber says, with a win at Texas Monday night. Losing games at home, which K-State has done three times now this season, hurts, but road games are often valued more in terms of NCAA tournament bids.
Weber agrees with K-State head coach Jerome Tang’s confidence that winning nine Big 12 games will earn a trip to the tournament, considering how difficult the Big 12 is this season.
“But that’s not the only way,” Weber said of going 9-9 in conference play. “You could substitute wins in Kansas City at T-Mobile Center for the 9-9. So I agree, that the thing that K-State’s looking for, home or road win, doesn’t matter, is can you get to 9-9 and your NCAA tournament chances go way up.”
In order to make a late-season push, Weber says K-State’s Cam Carter is going to have to play well. He called Carter K-State’s best player on both sides of the ball, saying that Patrick Mahomes stepped up in the Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs in crunch time, so Carter can do it for the ‘Cats.
