Washburn hoops wins both games against Lincoln

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Washburn men’s and women’s basketball are both heading into the weekend with a win.

Both teams secured home victories against Lincoln University of Missouri Thursday night, with the women winning 72-62 and the men winning 66-64.

The WU women’s team used a big second quarter to get out in front of the Blue Tigers. Washburn held a double-digit lead for most of the second half, but Lincoln clawed back within just six points in the fourth quarter.

Despite the comeback attempt, the Ichabods held on to snap a seven-game losing streak, improving to 12-13 on the season. Aubree Dewey finished with 19 points and Yiibari Nwidadah scored 15.

The men’s team got out to a slow start offensively, but outscored the Blue Tigers 44-33 in the second half to make it a game. Brady Christiansen hit a three-pointer with eight seconds on the clock to give the Ichabods a 66-64 lead and ultimately the win.

With the win, the men’s team ended a two-game losing streak, improving to 16-9 on the season.

The Ichabods are back home against Lee Arena on Saturday, Feb. 24 when they host Central Missouri. The women’s game tips off at 1 p.m. and the men’s game tips at 3 p.m.
