Warm temperatures expected ahead of a chance for strong storms late Wednesday

12 March 2024

Breezy southwest winds continue today around 15-25mph, and that will help highs into the middle to upper 70s if we can squeak out a bit more sunshine. Scattered clouds move through the region as a cold front approaches the area. The best chance for showers and storms exists to our east, but we can’t rule out an isolated evening storm in our far eastern counties.

We’ll notice cooler temperatures in the lower 40s to start with Wednesday morning behind that front, but the wind will again be from the south for the afternoon. So highs will likely make it back up into the middle to upper 70s ahead of our next slight chance for showers and storms. That looks to arrive by late Wednesday evening and into early Thursday morning.

There may be a couple strong or even severe storms with Wednesday’s system as a warm front lifts through the area. The best chance to see the stronger storms will be dependent on the timing of that front, and as of right now, the best chance for storms may end up being to the north of our area. However, with the timing in question, there could still be a few isolated storms possible north of I-70. The main threats with any storms will be large hail and gusty winds, but an isolated tornado can’t quite be ruled out yet. Make sure to keep checking back for updates.

Behind that system, we do get a bit cooler to end the week and start the weekend. Highs for Thursday and Friday will likely drop into the lower 60s. Yet another system tries to move in for the weekend, though, and that will drop temperatures even further into the middle 50s for Sunday.
