**WIND ADVISORY** – For the entire area starting later this afternoon and expiring at 3am tomorrow morning.
**RED FLAG WARNING** – For the southeastern half of the area from 11:00am to 6:00pm this evening.
A strong cold front races in through today, so highs will likely happen in the late morning to early afternoon. Quite warm for the late part of the day as we top out in the 70s in many locations south of I-70. Fire danger is extremely high through the entire area, but more so in the southeastern half of northeast Kansas.
Behind the front winds could gust out of the north around 40-45mph bringing in much colder temperatures. We could also see a brief period of rain changing to snow later tomorrow evening tapering off well before sunrise Wednesday. While accumulation doesn’t appear too likely because of how warm our ground is, there may be a dusting on grassy or elevated surfaces.
We’ll be much colder for midweek with temperatures waking up Wednesday in the teens and low 20s. Morning wind chills should be in the single digits, possibly near or below zero in the northern counties by early Wednesday. Highs try to rebound into the upper 30s and low 40s for Wednesday afternoon.
The good news with this taste of winter is that it’s really brief. By Thursday, we’re already back in the middle 50s. Winds remain gusty through most of this week, though, but that will ultimately help with our quick warm-up after the cold front. By the weekend, highs will be back up in the middle 70s, and we may even have a chance for thunderstorms by late Sunday afternoon and evening!
