Voters pass $13 million bond for Hillsboro USD 410

25 January 2024

HILLSBORO, Kan. (KSNW) – Voters have passed a $13,350,000 bond for Hillsboro USD 410.

This bond will extend a bond already in place from 2007 for an additional twenty years. There will be no mill levy increase meaning that there are no new taxes for the bonds.

The bond passed in 2007 covered everything from locker room, stadium, classroom, lunch room, and kitchen improvements.

“Once we came up with the list of what our needs were, we realized that the needs far outweigh our typical school budget, and so in order to meet those needs, we would need to pursue a bond issue,” said Hillsboro USD 410 Superintendent Clint Corby.

There are twelve primary projects that the school intends to focus on, including adding a tornado shelter to the elementary school, which will serve as additional classrooms.

“Obviously, different projects are important to different people. While plumbing might not be the most exciting project in the world, we know when it doesn’t work correctly,” said Corby. “But doing things like adding air conditioning to our gymnasium is a want and a need this community has had for many years. Doing things like our playground and greenhouse just provides nice upgrades for our community to be able to enjoy.”

Corby says he’s satisfied the school can move on with several proposed projects.

“To get 88% of people that agree on a topic is not an easy thing to do, but once again, it goes back to our community and the support that they have for us and the trust we have in them,” said Corby.

He says the goal is to have all the projects completed within three years.
