WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita Public Schools hosted its third listening session on the potential closing of six schools.
Monday night’s session focused on Clark Elementary School and Jardine STEM and Career Explorations Academy Magnet Middle School.
One parent attending says closing them would cause pain for families.
“They are closing schools that are needed in these neighborhoods because a lot of people walk to them and they are like medium to low income neighborhoods. they don’t have a lot of resources, and these schools are meaningful for the kids,” said Araceli Amdor, a USD 259 parent.
A public hearing focusing on all six potential school closures happens Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Alvin Morris Administrative Center, 903 S. Edgemoor. All those who desire to address the Board of Education must register in advance with the Clerk of the Board by calling 316-973-4553.
The BOE will vote on the proposed school closures on March 4 at 6 p.m. at North High School, 1437 N. Rochester St.
