WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita State University Shockers lost a tight game to the East Carolina Pirates on Wednesday, 54-52.

Things started off poorly for the Shockers, committing 11 turnovers in the first 17 minutes of the game, but the scoreboard was still relatively close. By the end of the first half, the Shockers only trailed 26-22.

The Pirates would extend their lead to as much as six, and while the Shockers clawed back and, with less than a minute, had a chance to tie the game at 54, it clanked off the side of the rim, and the Pirates got the win.

As a team, the Shockers shot 40.9% from the field and a dismal 16.7% from three. Harlond Beverly led the Shockers in scoring with 18 points.

Beverly was the only Shocker to score in double figures.

Up next, the Shockers will stay home and prepare for Southern Methodist on Sunday. That game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. and will air on ESPN2.
