TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topekans young and old gathered in north Topeka to watch a historic solar eclipse.
Monday, a senior center hosted a solar eclipse watch party that was open to the entire community. Papan’s Landing Senior Center had games, solar-themed snacks, live music and of course eclipse glasses, so everyone could see the historic solar eclipse safely.
The senior center’s Director Robin St. James said it was nice to bring people of all ages together to share in the moment.
“We had some younger people here, and this may have been the second one they’ve ever seen,” St. James said. “And for some of the seniors, me included, this might be the last one we see. So, I thought it was pretty cool to have everyone here. “
St. James said it’s important to bring the different generations together, to break down any barriers. The next solar eclipse in America isn’t until 2044.
