Topeka water boil advisory rescinded

18 January 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The KDHE has rescinded the boil water advisory for the City of Topeka on Thursday.

The City of Topeka announced laboratory test samples indicated no bacterial contamination and after all other factors were deemed to be resolved by the KDHE.

At 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 15, the City of Topeka announced on social media that the boil water advisory would last until Friday, Jan. 19. The advisory was initially announced on Sunday, Jan. 14 amid freezing temperatures across northeast Kansas.

The boil water advisories for the Shawnee County Rural Water District 1C and the Metro Topeka Airport Authority are still in effect awaiting lab results.

Topeka boil water advisory extended by several days

The City of Topeka said to flush waterlines for 10-15 minutes. Activities such as doing laundry, dishes, taking showers and flushing toilets will work to flush lines, according to the City.

“We want to recognize the hard work of city personnel, especially the Utilities Department,” the city said in a press release. “Because of the work of Utilities staff and the partnership between the city and KDHE, the sampling process was completed ahead of schedule, resulting in the Advisory lift today instead of the anticipated date of Friday, Jan. 19.”
