Topeka man sentenced for armed robbery at AutoZone

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Topeka man is receiving a more than five-year prison sentence in relation to an aggravated robbery at a North Topeka AutoZone in 2022.

The Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office said on Friday, Jan. 26 Christopher Johnson-Wettengel received 61 months in prison due to one count of aggravated robbery with a dangerous weapon. This was in connection to an armed robbery that occurred at an AutoZone on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at 1735 NW Topeka Boulevard.

Johnson-Wettengel followed an employee as he was walking outside the store with some trash back into the building. Inside, Johnson-Wettengel ordered the employee to get on the ground and put a gun to his head.

Johnson-Wettengel then ordered a cashier to open the register, according to the DA’s Office. He ordered the employee who was on the ground to hand over his wallet and cellphone. Johnson-Wettengel was later arrested on Dec. 26, 2022.
