Topeka house fire causes tens of thousands in damage

TOPEKA (KSNT) – On Sunday, firefighters responded to a house fire in southeast Topeka. The fire resulted in a total loss for the home.

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka said firefighters were called just after 9 p.m. on Feb. 11 to a house fire in the 3300 block of Southeast Colfax Street. Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from a single-story home.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and no occupants were found inside. No injuries were reported from the fire.

Nichols said the fire started in a bedroom and caused more than $32,000 in damages. No smoke detectors were found in the home. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
