Topeka highway bridge to shut down for replacement work

23 February 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A major bridge replacement project is set to begin later this month in west Topeka.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced in a press release that an I-470 bridge in west Topeka will be closing for several months. This is due to a bridge replacement project.

Work will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27 on the northbound I-470 bridge leading to westbound I-70. This will be closed until early December later this year.

Drivers on the highway will be able to follow detour routes to eastbound I-70 and Wanamaker Road or can use alternate routes, according to KDOT. Temporary lane reductions on I-70 are expected during this process.
