Topeka elementary school feeling Super Bowl spirit

1 February 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – One Topeka elementary school is gearing up for the Kansas City Chiefs to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.

Students and teachers at McCarter Elementary school have been sporting their best Chiefs red and yellow all week. Principal Monika Tiller is a die-hard Kansas City fan, and she wanted her students to have two spirit weeks leading up to the Super Bowl.

She tells 27 News seeing their enthusiasm while donning their favorite Chiefs gear is her favorite thing.

“I remember being a kid and how excited I was for football, and not truly understanding everything, but still feeling like I was involved in some way,” Tiller said. “And we try to do that here. We play our Chiefs music, and just let loose and have fun.”

She says school is about academics, but it’s also about having fun.

McCarter had ‘Travis and Taylor Tuesday,’ ‘Wacky Wednesday,’ ‘Thursday Jersday’ and of course, ‘Red Friday’ in honor of the Chiefs this week.

Tiller says there are more themes on the way for next week, as well as a Super Bowl-themed potluck dinner next Friday.
