TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Kansas City Chiefs fan from Topeka is planning a trip to Las Vegas to support his team, but doesn’t plan on going to the game.
Chris Welch, his friends and family are pretty big Chiefs fans. They went to Miami when the Chiefs faced off against the 49ers in 2020 and have made it to the host city of every Super Bowl game since, even the ones in which the Chiefs didn’t play.
Welch told 27 News the group makes the same plan every year, just hoping the Chiefs make it to the big game.
“It’s a good time, regardless,” Welch said. “Of course we want our team to be there, and of course there’s a good chance they’re going to be there, especially with Mahomes there.”
He believes the trips are more special because of the team’s previous record lows.
“When you’re when you’re a true Chiefs fan and been have been through the 2-14 seasons for so long, it’s, I mean, it’s an emotional feeling,” Welch said. “You actually feel, you just see, just part of something that you can’t get at your house.”
Welch said he bought his tickets before the Chiefs even made it to the Super Bowl because he knew they’d make it.
