Republican states file lawsuit challenging Biden’s student loan repayment plan

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A third federal lawsuit is filed over the police raid at the Marion County Record.
The lawsuit was filed by Marion County Record Office Manager Cheri Bentz against the City of Marion and several individuals, including former police chief Gideon Cody, mayor David Mayfield, interim chief Zach Hudlin, sheriff Jeff Soyez, and sheriff’s detective Aaron Christner.
She alleges the warrants used for the raid were based on false statements and that officers went beyond the scope of the warrants.
Bentz also says she was illegally detained, interrogated, treated like a criminal, and had to stand outside in the heat for several hours despite officers acknowledging that she was not suspected of wrongdoing. She also states that her health was affected.
“As a result of the raid and the actions of law enforcement set out herein, Bentz has lost sleep, has seen her daily quality of life diminish, has seen her social relationships impacted, and has faced aggravated health conditions,” stated the lawsuit.
Reporters for the paper, Phyllis Zorn and Debbie Gruver, have also filed lawsuits.
The next and likely largest suit, from the newspaper itself, editor and publisher Eric Meyer, and the estate of co-owner Joan Meyer, who died a day after the raid from raid-related stress, is expected to be filed as early as Monday.”
