The Big Game brings good business to local restaurants

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Most Americans won’t be in Las Vegas for the Big Game on Sunday, so that leaves fans with the option to watch the game from the comfort of their own home or from a local restaurant.

Three local restaurants are already prepped for the wave of fans that will be crowding in to enjoy the Big Game. However, at least one business in town is relying on customers cheering for San Francisco.

Hurricane Sports Grill on the west side is expecting a watch party of about 200 people and there’s a good chance some of them will be ordering chicken wings-a favorite for the Big Game.

“It could probably triple my business the way that it was the last two games. They show up here to support their team and to support a local restaurant,” Hurricane Sports Grill owner Luis Lopez said.

Lopez says they are also prepping for a lot of to-go orders as people have been ordering chicken wings for weeks in advance.

Emerson Biggins in Old Town says they are already getting calls to make reservations to guarantee a place to watch the game and eat. The manager says a raffle and specials will likely draw in a good crowd.

“I think it’s going to help our sales tremendously. Obviously, the later the local teams play, the better it is for business. You know, obviously, people want to come out and support their local team, so you know, some people get here earlier, so we’ll sell more food and drinks throughout the entire day,” Emerson Biggins manager Shelby Austin said.

Austin says they also expect chicken wings to be a big hit on Sunday.

Believe it or not, Chiefs are Super Bowl underdogs

Walt’s All American Bar and Grill is also expecting a good crowd for the Big Game. The restaurant is known for Sunday fried chicken.

“Anytime any local teams are doing well, it has a big impact on how sports bars do or just bars in general,” Walt’s co-owner Heather Westfall said. “So we’re really excited when they do well, we do well, and that’s a win-win for everybody.”

Westfall says even if some of her staff isn’t working that day, they will still likely be at the restaurant for the game.
