WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Tanganyika Wildlife Park has announced the name of the new baby Pygmy hippopotamus as Latke. Latke was born in December and has become a social media sensation.
The park says his name reflects the traditional Hannukah potato dish, reflecting his endearing round physique. Latke has tripled his weight since he was born and weighs 46.8 pounds.
His parents are Posie and Pluto, who have become critical players in safeguarding the species. The baby is their fourth calf.
When the park reopens for the season on March 9, visitors can see Latke and his parent in their habitat.
