Symphony in the Flint Hills to feature Katharine McPhee

26 February 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The popular Symphony in the Flint Hills will feature singer Katharine McPhee this year. She will perform with the Kansas City Symphony on Saturday, June 8, at Red Ranch in Greenwood County.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. this Saturday, March 2.

McPhee was runner-up on season five of American Idol in 2006. Since then, she’s starred in television shows and films and on Broadway. She has also performed to sold-out crowds around the world. Her singing ranges from pop to jazz to adult contemporary.

”It’s a rare opportunity to experience the Flint Hills landscape on privately owned property while listening to the Kansas City Symphony and the dynamic voice of Katharine McPhee,” Mike Collinge, Symphony in the Flint Hills board chair, said in a news release.

The Symphony in the Flint Hills began in 2006 to heighten appreciation and knowledge of the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie. It brings people together each June to celebrate music, art, and the ecology of the Flint Hills at a different site each year.

“We are excited to bring our 19th annual Signature Event to Greenwood County, and we thank the Evans Family for graciously offering the Red Ranch with its rolling hills and wide-open spaces as the location,” said Kelly Tastove, the operations manager and donor relations manager.

Gates will open at 1 p.m. on June 8. There will be covered wagon rides, roping with the outriders, guided prairie walks, inspirational talks and more.

The evening features McPhee performing with the Kansas City Symphony, then a Flint Hills sunset, powwow dancers, stargazing and more.

Early bird tickets for adults are $95 plus tax and fees. Children, 12 and under, are $50 plus tax and fees.
