WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office confirms a man is dead following a shooting Thursday morning.
It happened following a domestic violence incident with a possible robbery, chase, and hostage situation.
The sheriff’s office says Wichita police were called to the domestic violence with robbery around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night. The suspect was located an hour later, and a chase ensued. The chase ended a few blocks east of Interstate I-135 on Harry at Grove Street. The suspect inside the vehicle fled into a home.
“The person inside that home was not associated with the suspect or this incident at this time,” Colonel Brian White, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, said.
The sheriff’s office said the SWAT team was activated. Negotiators were called in.
“The suspect then encountered a person that was inside the home, and we believe at this time he threatened immediate violence against that person. The suspect did. Shots were fired at the suspect,” White said.
The suspect was transported to the hospital by EMS, where he died. The person inside the home was not injured, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation will now manage the investigation because the Wichita Police and Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office were both involved in the incident.
Harry Street will be blocked east of I-135 as the KBI investigates.
