TOPEKA (KSNT) – A team of reviewers gave Stormont Vail Health a gold seal of approval for its perinatal care services.

On Wednesday, Stormont Vail Health announced that The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care (ACPC) was awarded to the hospital. The award is given to entities that provide safe, high-quality, patient care for complicated and uncomplicated pregnancies.

“Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” DNP, MBA, RN, Executive Vice President of Accreditation and Certification Operations and Chief Nursing Officer with The Joint Commission Ken Grubbs said. “We commend Stormont Vail for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes.”

To be selected for the Gold Seal of Approval, the hospital had to undergo a 2-day review late last year. Reviewers with The Joint Commission conducted interviews and evaluated compliance with certification standards.

Measure performance to make improvements.

“Our commitment to achieving this certification is really our commitment to our patients, their families, and our community,” said Kim Dick, Perinatal Quality Program Manager. “We utilize The Joint Commission’s certification as a formalized way to hold ourselves accountable to and pledge the level of excellence we expect each patient in our Maternal Child service line to receive while they are in our care.”
