Storm Track 3 Forecast: Warmer winds kick in after the next rain chance clears

25 January 2024

Areas of fog will reform into the overnight with pockets of drizzle. Another Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for multiple counties until noon Friday.

Temperatures tonight will reset to the 30s with the upper 20s farther northwest.

Temperatures Friday under a cloudy sky with rain favoring southern Kansas will be in the upper 30s through the 40s.

We continue to make gains with our ongoing drought across Kansas due to recent snowfall and rainfall.

We will await the next round of rainy weather later tonight and through much of Friday.  This system takes a southerly jog mainly through Oklahoma and Texas.

Southern Kansas will benefit from more light rain associated with this over the next 24. Scattered showers move into Southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle after midnight.

High pressure moving in from the north will steer this away from us but maintain a few showers around the Wichita area Friday.  Any amounts will be light, and this should move out Friday night. This activity may try to end as a brief wintry mix around southcentral and southeast Kansas early Saturday morning as the temp drops near freezing.

Clouds will exit from west to east Saturday.  Temperatures will be near average to start the weekend before a nice warm-up into much of next week.  Highs early next week warm to the 50s and 60s farther southwest.  The warmth keeps building into Tuesday and Wednesday with light winds.

There will be a few “backdoor” cold fronts by the end of next week that will chip away the warmth from northeast to southwest, but it will not be a sudden and rude drop.  Next Friday into the following weekend, a few rain showers will be around the state.  More will miss out than benefit from any additional moisture into early February.
