3 March 2024
Warm and windy for the weekend, with temperatures reaching well above the seasonal norm. Today we reach into the 70s and 80s across the region, feeling more like summer than the first weekend of March.
Fire weather concerns continue with these warm and windy conditions. Fire Weather Warnings are in place for Western Kansas through 8 PM this evening. Far Southwest Kansas will see another Fire Weather Warning tomorrow from 11 AM until midnight.
Fire Weather Watches are in place across Southern Kansas on Sunday from 11 AM to 8 PM as this will be where the strongest winds are located.
Winds stay strong overnight, with gusts up to 50 MPH possible through the early morning.
Skies will be clear with a wide range of temperatures. Lows will be in the 30s, 40s, and 50s across the state.
Toasty temperatures are on deck once again for tomorrow. Highs will climb to above the seasonal average as we once again sit in the 60s and 70s for most. Areas in far Southern Kansas will flirt with the 80s by peak heating in the afternoon.
An approaching cold front will slide across the state late Sunday, putting on the break once it reaches the southeast corner of the region. This will create quite the temperature spread on Monday, with fire weather concerns for those seeing the warmest temps.
Highs will slowly wane over the next seven days. We fall back into the 60s for the first half of the week before rain cooled air leaves us in the 50s come Saturday.
Our next chance for moisture arrives late Wednesday night into Thursday. Rain will arrive during the overnight, starting out scattered but becoming more widespread through early Thursday.
Showers will cover most of the region on Thursday with a few claps of thunder possible. Depending on how quickly temperatures fall behind this passing boundary, we could see some snowfall mix in for Northwest Kansas.
Rain will clear from west to east on Friday. Central and Eastern Kansas will see showers through early Friday evening before sunnier skies return on Saturday. Winds stay out of the north, keeping temperatures in the 50s as we start the weekend.
Temperatures return to a more seasonal pattern by the weekend and the start of next week.
