Storm Track 3 Forecast: Temps climb, sunshine returns for the start of the week

12 February 2024

Below average highs today across the region as northerly winds and cloud cover kept us on the cooler side. Temperatures did reach above freezing, meaning the snow we saw on the ground this morning in western Kansas has had plenty of time to melt by this evening.

Moisture stays just to our south, with rain and snow tracking through Oklahoma. This is all following the low-pressure system moving into Louisiana this evening and causing strong to severe thunderstorms to push through the south.

Most of the rainfall will stay outside the region this evening, but southcentral Kansas could see a few showers this evening in our southernmost counties.

The cloud cover will slowly break apart tonight. Temperatures quickly fall back into the 10s and 20s under clear skies with winds out of the northwest.

A few flurries will be possible for the far southeastern corner of the state overnight. If our easternmost counties see any snowfall, only light accumulations are likely.

Sunny skies will be in full force tomorrow as we kick off the workweek. Temperatures climb nearly 10 degrees warmer than what we saw today. Winds stay out of the north but will begin to shift tomorrow night.

Highs surge upwards for the middle of the week. We flirt with the 60s under clear skies with southerly winds through Thursday. Then our next boundary approached for the weekend. Temperatures take a tumble by Friday, back towards our seasonal norm.

Moisture will arrive with this approaching cold front for the weekend. The best chances for moisture will be on Friday into Saturday, with a mix of rain and snow possible. This is still several days away, so we will continue to iron out the details with timing and totals over the course of the week.
