Temperatures are riding this warmer wave through the end of the workweek. Temperatures have been much warmer than normal for many today, but it all starts to change tomorrow.
Tonight will be comfortably cool with increasing clouds.
Some fog may develop through the night. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for Northwest Kansas through noon Friday.
Friday’s highs will once again reach well above the norm for this time of year.
Winds will increase as we await a potent and slow-moving storm system the sticks around from Friday through Sunday.
Scattered thundershowers are possible toward afternoon in Southwest Kansas.
This activity will track northeast and arrive in the Wichita Metro after 8 PM Friday. There is some instability capable of producing a few claps of thunder and possibly some small hail in any stronger storm. Severe chances are limited right now.
Rain will spread across much of the state Friday night through Saturday and Sunday.
This system should wane Sunday night as it departs. Some snow may try to mix in over Northwest Kansas once temps cool enough at night.
By day, this will persist as a healthy rainy system. Rainfall potential over a wide swath of Kansas will be from an inch or two with locally higher amounts. Rainfall intensity during this event may be locally heavy at times.
Temps will cool with the addition of rain and clouds. We will still be above average once this cooler change happens this weekend.
Temperatures then warm ahead of the next cold front for the first half of next week. This will ultimately bring a stronger push of colder air by the end of next week. Rain showers are possible Wednesday into Thursday.
We will need to watch the degree as to how quickly and how much we cool with any remaining moisture. If the moisture is still available once we cool, this might end as some snow. Something to watch once we get closer next week.
