Storm Track 3 Forecast: Springtime warmth continues before a rainy weekend

31 January 2024

Wonderfully warm and sunshiny skies have been in play this week.

It was another unseasonably warm day across the Sunflower State.

Overnight, there will be an uptick in mid and upper-level cloud cover.  There is a fast-moving disturbance that will cruise across Kansas through Thursday.  Moisture is lacking.

While a sprinkle cannot be ruled out, this system comes through dry.  Temperatures will be able to warm once again well into the 60s and some 70s.

A stronger system begins to take shape Friday.  Scattered rain showers blossom closer to the Oklahoma state line.  We have some instability to work with so a clap of thunder or two is possible.

This will linger over the weekend in the form of light to moderate rain.

Depending on the track of this system, there will be a corridor of 1″ to 2″ of rain with locally higher amounts. Temperatures will begin to take a cooler turn with this tracking through the region this weekend.

Any rain will be long gone by the start of the new workweek.  Temperatures will be closer to average.  Scattered rain showers make a comeback next Wednesday into Thursday with another approaching front.  While temperatures try to rally ahead of the cold front, this warm-up will be cut short.  Still looking like a colder cycle will make a pitstop in the Central Plains before Valentine’s Day.  Does not look like it will be as cold as the blast in January and not last as long before trending milder once again.
