Cold air continues spilling into Kansas behind yesterday’s potent system, and we will not be totally done with the effects of this storm until tonight.
Snow bands spiraling across western Kansas have prompted Winter Weather Advisories and Blizzard Warnings which will remain in effect until tonight.
Snowfall could be locally heavy, particularly in northwest Kansas. Snow bands spread east across the state today as the chilly air deepens its grip, which may bring some light snow as far east as Wichita by tonight. No accumulations anticipated in Wichita.
Temperatures plunge throughout the afternoon and evening. Winds remain gusty for the rest of the day but then begin to quiet down tonight. Wichita hit the high temperature earlier this morning. Lows below freezing statewide tonight.
More sunshine into Tuesday but temperatures remain chilly especially in areas with snowpack to the northwest.
One more weak disturbance may generate a few sprinkles on Wednesday but impactful moisture is not expected.
Temperatures will begin to warm up as we sit in the gap between storm systems through the end of the week, with highs returning to the 70s by week’s end. Winds get a bit gusty at times but overall the rest of the week remains more settled.
Our next storm system will approach as we head toward next Monday. Temperatures drop as a cold front sweeps through. Chances for moisture appear somewhat limited for Kansas, though some showers and storms will be possible with a chance of snow for far western and northwestern Kansas.
