From high fire danger to severe storms and even snow, Kansas has more wild weather to contend with this week. Moisture is streaming north to feed into the belly of the next potent storm system.
A Tornado Watch is in effect until 1 AM Thursday to the northeast.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until midnight farther west.
Areas near and north of I-70 along with spots East of I-135 are in position for strong to severe thunderstorms. Showers begin to fester with a general uptick in strength early this evening.
First location to see severe storm development will be across northern Kansas. All forms of severe weather are possible from damaging winds to large hail and a tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
Deeper into the evening, showers will blossom closer to Wichita and grow into stronger storms near/East of the Turnpike into the overnight. The severe storm threat for our area should drop after 2 AM tonight.
Rain showers will continue Thursday across much of western Kansas with a higher concentration to the northwest.
Colder air Thursday night will allow a changeover to snow, but model trends have been shifting the higher snowfall accumulations farther west. That said, Goodland and other towns in extreme northwest Kansas should see some snow from this system.
Clouds will mingle with sunshine farther east with cooler temperatures to end the workweek.
The warmth tries to fight back Saturday but gets knocked back with another cold front late this weekend. A sprinkle or a shower cannot be ruled out Saturday, but the chance is low and sparse. Cooler air begins the new workweek with warming temperatures across the state on Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms look to return the middle to late portions of next week.
