We are gearing up for one of the best, if not THE BEST, weekends of winter. Winds are elevated through early evening before relaxing tonight. Temps overnight will not be terribly cool under a starry sky.
Winds will be breezy Saturday with highs warmer than average in the 60s and 70s.
Fire Weather Watches are in place through 6 PM Saturday to the northwest as dry, windy, and warm conditions will lead to heightened fire concerns this weekend.
There will be more 70s for Sunday with gentle winds. If there is any yard work to get done, perhaps removing anything dry and dead that could fuel a wildfire, this is the weekend to get outside and do it.
Winds pick up in Southwest Kansas on Monday. Winds will gust above 40 MPH. Highs will climb further and there will be some 80s, especially across southern Kansas into Oklahoma.
Stronger winds spread through the rest of the state on Tuesday ahead of a potent cold front. Winds will gust from 35 to 45 MPH. Gusts from Southwest Kansas into the Oklahoma Panhandle could exceed 50 MPH on Tuesday!
Temperatures will crash from north to south during the day. If this front comes through too soon, then it will limit our chances for moisture, whether that be rain or snow.
Weather model trends today do not look that great for seeing much moisture within our viewing area. Rain showers have a better chance of coming to fruition farther east with a chance for stronger storms along the I-44 corridor from eastern Oklahoma into Missouri up to Chicago and down through Arkansas.
There is a chance for a band of snow Tuesday night that could affect northern Kansas. Any accumulations will be light, if at all, as temperatures tumble below freezing.
Temperatures will be briefly cool Wednesday in the 40s and 50s before trending warmer to end next week.
There is a system that will skirt by to our southeast next Thursday. We will watch this closely to see if it can wobble farther north. If it can, then rain showers are a possibility East of the Turnpike.
