The weather has taken a much more pleasant turn for the Sunflower State. A great birthday present of a fairly quiet and warm week ahead.
Conditions will change upon the arrival of the weekend as a potent storm system approaches the Plains. This looks promising for rain over much, if any, snow.
Temperatures today are well above average for this time of year. There is a subtle wind shift due to a disturbance sliding by to the northeast that will change our wind direction from the west to the northwest into Tuesday.
Overnight temperatures will be chilly, but not as cold as they could be for this time of year.
With the wind shift happening tonight, temps will be a few degrees cooler Tuesday, but it will be hardly noticeable.
Dry and sun-filled skies will remain until Friday. Temperatures stay above average until our next chance of rain arrives this weekend.
A few rain showers may form in Southcentral stretching back to Northwest Kansas late Friday.
The bulk of the energy and moisture ramps up Friday night through Saturday and lingers into part of Sunday. If temps can cool quickly enough with any leftover moisture, a few snowflakes are possible in Northwest Kansas.
This system is warm and conducive for rain. Rainfall potential this many days out is consistent for how widespread the healthy rain will be for Kansas. Many cities will be capable of gaining an inch to more than 2 inches of rain.
The line-up for the most will be fine-tuned in the days to come but this could push our drought out further.
Temperatures will cool behind this system to near average before we cycle warmer again next week. A shot of colder air looks to hold off until the middle of February.
