A mix of rain and freezing rain is tracking across the region this evening. Temperatures are hovering right at freezing and will fall once the sun sets.
Winter Weather Advisors are in place for portions of central and eastern Kansas from 8 PM tonight through noon tomorrow. Slick sports will be possible on roadways overnight and for the morning commute, so please give yourself extra time to drive to work tomorrow morning.
Freezing rain will continue to track through the region overnight, with the heaviest bands of moisture moving along and south of the turnpike.
Temperatures fall back into the 20s for most of the state tonight. Winds will stay strong out of the south, helping to keep lows from falling into the teens. Gusts up to 30 MPH are possible across central Kansas.
A light glaze of ice will be possible for most of central Kansas through tomorrow morning. The high totals of sleet and ice will stay in southeast Kansas, mainly along and south of the turnpike.
Rain will be off and on for central Kansas tomorrow. Highs climb into the upper 30s and low 40s by the afternoon, with winds staying strong out of the south.
Western Kansas will miss out on the rainfall for Monday evening. Bands of showers track across central Kansas, with the possibility of a wintry mix as temperatures plummet overnight.
Despite the rain chances, temperatures will continue to climb this week. Highs push back above the seasonal norm by the middle of the week and stay in the mid to upper 40s through the weekend. Winds out of the south will be the driving force behind this warm-up.
Southerly flow will also pull moisture into the Sunflower State. Another opportunity for moisture arrives Tuesday night. Showers will be more widespread with pockets of heavy rain tracking through the state.
As temperatures fall overnight, a wintry mix will be possible across western Kansas on Wednesday. Rain and snow will slowly clear out by the evening, leaving drier skies behind for Thursday.
Temperatures will stay above average through the weekend and into the start of the next week.
