10 March 2024
After a spring-like afternoon, temperatures quickly cool under clear skies overnight. Winds stay breezy this evening as southerly flow pulls warmer air into the region.
Highs across the region will be in the 70s tomorrow. Skies will stay sunny as winds increase through the afternoon.
Fire Weather Watches and Warnings are already in place for portions of Southwest Kansas and Northcentral Kansas from 1 to 7 PM on Monday. Please avoid any outdoor burning over the next few days.
Winds will be strong, with gusts up to 40 MPH at times. This will be the case for most of the region, with far Northwest Kansas being the exception. As these winds stay southerly, warm air will continue to filter into the Sunflower State.
Even if you are not currently under a Fire Weather Watch or Warning, fire weather concerns cover the entire state. Elevated to critical fire weather concerns cover most of the region for Monday.
Warm and windy conditions follow us through the middle of the week, with fire weather danger sticking around through then as well. Cooler temperatures arrive by Thursday as rain chances increase for the second half of the week.
Our first disturbance of the week arrives late Tuesday night. This front will not have much moisture to work with until it arrives in Southeast Kansas.
A few isolated storms will be possible on Tuesday evening. A Marginal Risk is in place for our far Southeasternmost counties as a storm or two could produce gusty winds or hails.
Better chances for widespread moisture arrive on Wednesday. Our next disturbance rolls into the region on Wednesday evening and brings showers along with it. Those along and north of I-70 will see showers first before they spread south overnight.
As temperatures fall behind the passing boundary, a rain and snow mixture will be possible in Northwest Kansas. As we get closer to its arrival, we will have a better handle on timing and totals with this system.
Temperatures dip as we head into the weekend. Temperatures will stay just below average for the start of next week.
