15 February 2024
Clouds will slowly break apart into this evening, except for Northwest Kansas. Any break in this part of our viewing area will be short before clouds thicken with a chance of rain to snow showers overnight.
This is the stronger cold front making itself known. Lows tonight will be in the 20s and 30s.
Expect mostly snow showers out of this, but some rain could also be in the mix due to timing of the day and temperatures. This will spread East and then track southeast into the first half of Friday. This chance for moisture misses Southwest Kansas but could survive enough for a quick shot of flurries/light snow around the Wichita Metro late Friday morning through the lunch hour. This wave will depart in the afternoon and exit our viewing area to the southeast.
Any snowfall accumulations will be light and generally less than an inch. This should not have an impact on travel. Due to the ground recently being warm, accumulations will be difficult to be seen. Winds will increase tonight and ramp up with gusts from 25-35 MPH announcing the colder change. Highs Friday will be in the 30s and 40s which is below average.
Friday night another piece of energy will dive south and favor the Kansas/Colorado state line.
Most snowfall accumulations will range from a trace to an inch or two. There may be a few spots trying to get to that 2″ mark near the Kansas/Colorado state line, but this should be isolated. You can see how snowfall accumulations will be painted across Kansas, taking both of these disturbances into account.
Temps fall to the teens and twenties overnight into Saturday morning. The weekend will begin cold but warm quickly on Sunday. Saturday stays in the 30s and 40s. Sunday’s highs climb to the 50s. The heat builds further from Monday through Wednesday with highs in the 60s. Some 70s are possible late in this warming trend.
Cannot rule out a sprinkle or a shower with a weak disturbance Monday, but moisture is meager. We might have a better chance for rain and snow later next week, Wednesday night into Thursday, due to another cold front tracking through the area.
